3. The top is 1" thick, not the old industry standard of 3/4"! 3/4" plywood will flex and bow under the load of heavy dogs but not so for a 1" thick top. 1" thick wood costs us a lot more but it is worth the quality improvement. (look at the picture and see the quality difference.)
